This blog took a bit of a hiatus, good gosh! Summer turned into Fall and now Fall is about to turn into Winter. I woke up this morning to find the time on my phone didn’t match the time on my alarm clock. Daylight savings already? I had no idea! If only every day started with an unexpected extra hour of sleep.
So what has happened over the past several weeks? Why has there been such an absence of posts?? Well, about 6 weeks ago the boyfriend and I decided to buy a house. What a whirlwind of a process! We browsed listings, found a realtor, and fell in love with the first house we looked at (the place is simply too perfect). We made an offer, then a counter offer, and are now in the midst of escrow. Paperwork, appraisals, and inspections.. oh, my! It’s exciting (albeit terrifying). Now I’m sitting tight with my fingers crossed in hopes that everything works out..
Despite the craziness of the past month, we did manage one short getaway to the small town of Julian, best known for their apple orchards. It’s about 60 miles Northeast of downtown San Diego and nestled in the mountains. The drive alone is worth the trek – winding roads and gorgeous views. Lucky enough for us, the day we made it was also the last day of apple picking season.
The boyfriend and I picked apples, ate apple pie, drank apple cider, and then ate more apple pie. There was also beer. And sangria. But mostly our time was spent waiting in line for pie and then eating an excess of pie. The favorite? Boysenberry Apple Crumb. YUM!!
Did I mention Julian has the best transit I have ever seen? Li’l Sebastian was available to cart you from one end of Main Street to the other.
A weekend of apple picking can only mean one thing.. lots of recipes with ’em! Tuesday will commence with a brunch post, followed by dinner and dessert. After that, who knows! Hopefully I’ll be posting recipes from a new kitchen!!
